The end of a great camp!

So, whilst I’m in Florida and the jet lag has worn off, I thought I’d update the blog.

Firstly, the reason why it was not updated all the time was because we had so many activities for the Scouts to participate in. Some nights we got in late from cycling and the water sports definitely worn them out. We also ended up having a fire on the beach, accompanied with marshmallows and sharing stories with other Scouts that they will remember for life.

Now the explanation is over, let’s just give you a little flavour of what they got up to.

In the short, the Scouts (and leaders when they got peer pressured into doing them) participated in vast amounts of cycling, coasteering (jumping off rocks into water), SUPing (like surfing but with a paddle), bushcraft with machette man (Kaz), the underground hospital and abseiling.

On one very hot day, with lots of water being consumed, we all cycled 35 miles around the island. From the leaders point of view, the scouts did exceptionally well and exceeded out expectations. So well done to them all!

The water sports was great fun as the weather was hot and all the scouts were keen to show off their interesting jumps into the water. Abseiling off a look out tower was tricky for some, but they all managed to abseil down and wave to all of the boats passing.

Bushcraft was a different experience from what the leaders can teach and so we left it of the professionalism of Kaz to do it for us. He took them on a nature trail, letting them eat ants and different types of plants. Apparently some tasted like Haribo?

Anyway, to round it off, the Scouts improved their cooking and cycling skills and are a lovely set of young people.

Please look at the Dropbox as there are still some more photos to be uploaded.

See you in September!
